Featured Report: Building Public Service Leadership Capacity

CAPAM EVENTS

CAPAM’s events offer participants the opportunity to network and develop meaningful connections with professionals, practitioners and peers throughout the Commonwealth.  As well, bringing together professionals from all sectors of public administration, CAPAM’s events offer an un-paralleled global perspective on the field.

CAPAM’s events explore a variety of public sector reform themes, such as: organisational change; partnerships; e-government; networked government; values and ethics; leadership qualities, styles and transferable competencies; and, the implications of globalisation and interconnectedness for good governance and development.

Conferences

CAPAM currently produces one or two major conferences each year.  In 2009, CAPAM plans on holding multiple regional conferences.  The conferences would be 2 days in duration and accommodate about 100 participants.   By situating these conferences in various regions of the Commonwealth, members will all have an opportunity to attend one conference per year in their home region.

Learning Programmes

CAPAM’s learning programmes provide the opportunity for members to engage and participate in customized regional, national and international programmes.  Each programme offers the opportunity to share in best practices, exchange knowledge, and build ongoing relationships that strengthen networks of professional contacts.

In 2009, CAPAM will offer the following 3 types of Learning Programmes:

Senior Leaders Forums.  These forums will cater to the unique needs of the very senior members of the Public Service.  Participation will be limited to Institutional Members only.  The objective is to provide senior leaders with opportunities to listen to world class speakers and to have a safe and inclusive environment to discuss challenging issues faced in the workplace.

Expert Workshops/Seminars.  The purpose of these workshops and seminars is to foster a “community of practice” among CAPAM members.  These events will be facilitated by a member of the 3 CAPAM expert networks.  Participants would be exposed to a specific issue or research finding and will be encouraged to build on and refine the findings.  Results of the workshop/seminar would be captured in a report used in other CAPAM events.

Developmental Programmes “Certificate Programmes.” The focus of these development programmes are intense and effective knowledge transfer.   Typical participants will be managers who want to develop new skills or refine selected competencies.  Format of these programmes will be instructor led in a classroom environment.  The content and design of each learning programme could be replicated with minor adjustments to local context.
